BOD POD Body Composition Testing

 

Body composition is your ratio of fat to fat-free mass, and is one of the best indicators of overall health. Duke Diet and Fitness Center offers measurement using the BOD POD, the industry’s gold standard for precision body composition testing. After your BOD POD test, our exercise physiologists will review your results and help you determine safe, healthy goal weights based on your recommended body fat percentage.

In three minutes, BOD POD:

  • Uses air displacement technology to determine your body composition within 2.7 percent
  • Measures your total weight, body fat percentage and total lean body mass 
  • Gives you a baseline of your current body composition and gives you the insight to make decisions on diet and exercise programs
  • Monitors the success of a nutrition and/or exercise program, and the rate at which you’re losing or gaining body fat, to ensure safety
  • Monitors for obesity—a risk factor for issues like stroke and diabetes

The average age-adjusted Body Mass Index (BMI) in the U.S. is 28.7. A BMI of 30 is considered obese.

The BOD POD Experience

Time

The BOD POD test takes about 3 minutes, and with results review and goal setting, about 30 minutes total

 

Prep

No food, drink or exercise two hours prior to test.

 

Attire

Remove jewelry, glasses, socks. Wear a swim cap, and a Speedo® or spandex-type swimsuit (women: no swim skirt), or non-padded, single-layer compression shorts (women: w/sports bra)

 

Process

Sit quietly inside the cabin, relax and breathe normally—you’ll feel slight air pressure changes, similar to being in an elevator
