Four Week Weight Loss Program

Our most popular weight loss program is also our most comprehensive—featuring four entirely different weeks of workshops, classes, experiences and exercise sessions. It gives you more insights on living a healthier life; more time with medical, nutrition, behavioral and fitness experts; time to become comfortable with lifestyle changes you’ll continue at home; and actually allows you to start seeing the health benefits before the end of your stay. 

  • Medical evaluation, including laboratory tests
  • Individual consultations with behavioral health, fitness, and nutrition staff
  • Weekly check-ins with professional staff
  • Lectures on nutrition, fitness, behavioral health, and other health issues
  • Monday through Friday: 3 meals and healthy snacks
  • Saturday and Sunday: Breakfast & Lunch, plus healthy snacks
  • Cooking demonstrations and a virtual grocery store tour
  • Daily fitness classes and access to our fitness facilities, including treadmills, stationary bikes, steppers, rowing machines, elliptical trainers, weight circuit and free weights, Pilates equipment, and a large indoor saltwater pool
  • A complimentary personal training session
  • Companion Discount—sign up with a friend and you’ll both receive 10% off your program fee
  • Additional services such as massage therapy, personal training, ongoing counseling, and Dietitian on Demand are available for an additional fee

Two or Three Week Weight Loss Program

Our two-and three-week weight loss programs offer many of the same elements as our four-week program, in a condensed format. They include:

  • Medical evaluation, including laboratory tests

  • Individual consultations with behavioral health, fitness, and nutrition staff

  • Weekly check-ins with professional staff

  • Lectures on topics in nutrition, fitness, behavioral health, and other health issues

  • Monday through Friday: 3 meals and healthy snacks

  • Saturday and Sunday: Breakfast & Lunch, plus healthy snacks

  • Cooking demonstrations and a virtual grocery store tour

  • Daily fitness classes and access to our fitness facilities, including treadmills, stationary bikes, steppers, rowing machines, elliptical trainers, weight circuit and free weights, Pilates equipment, and a large indoor saltwater pool

  • A complimentary personal training session

Book Two or Three Week Weight Loss Program

 

One Week Weight Loss Program

Our one-week program is a great way to get a jump start on the path to better health. It is geared towards individuals that simply can’t make the four-week time commitment. It will provide:

  • Medical evaluation, including laboratory tests

  • Individual consultations with behavioral health, fitness, and nutrition staff, with recommendations for a plan you can follow at home

  • A sampling of core classes that introduce you to weight control and lifestyle-change strategies

  • Monday through Friday: 3 meals and healthy snacks

  • Saturday and Sunday: Breakfast & Lunch, plus healthy snacks

  • Daily fitness classes and access to our fitness facilities, including treadmills, stationary bikes, steppers, rowing machines, elliptical trainers, weight circuit and free weights, Pilates equipment, and a large indoor saltwater pool

  • A complimentary personal training session

  • Additional services such as massage therapy, personal training and Dietitian on Demand are available for an additional fee 

Book One Week Weight Loss Program

Graduate Program

Complete four weeks at Duke Diet & Fitness Center within two years and you can access our Graduate Programs. Return for a week or two to reinvigorate your commitment to better health, and to learn the latest in weight loss and lifestyle strategies. This is key, because our approach is informed by the research at Duke Medicine, our methods are constantly being refined. This program includes:

  • A medical reassessment, including a focused history, physical exam, and limited laboratory testing


  • Complete use of facilities (as permitted by an exercise prescription from our medical staff)

  • Weekly check-ins with medical, fitness, nutrition, and behavioral health

  • Classes and program materials

  • Monday through Friday - three meals and healthy snacks; Saturday and Sunday- Breakfast & Lunch, plus healthy snacks

 *To be considered a graduate you must return within 3 years of last stay and after the four-week program is completed.

Extended Your Stay

If you would like to stay longer than the four-weeks, Duke Diet & Fitness Center offers extended stays on a weekly basis for up to a total three-month stay. This option is best suited for clients who:

  • Are severely challenged by excess weight and a lack of physical fitness, and desire an extended, supervised weight loss program

  • Wish to work through the emotional transitions associated with weight loss and major lifestyle changes

  • Need a supportive, caring environment in which to work on weight-related or other life issues

Participants can stay for up to 12 weeks while maintaining close contact with the professional staff. We do not often encourage stays beyond 12 weeks, since it is beneficial for clients to practice the new skills at home. We consider such requests on a case-by-case basis.

Family Support

Family and close friends are invaluable in supporting you in your weight loss journey—especially when they learn the same strategies you learn at Duke Diet & Fitness Center. We have a program for that! It educates those who don’t struggle with weight themselves how best to support clients participating in our full program, and includes:

  • Lectures (excluding discussion groups)

  • Monday through Friday - three meals and healthy snacks; Saturday and Sunday- Breakfast & Lunch

  • Gym and pool access (requires brief medical check-in, questionnaire/waiver, possible Exercise Tolerance Test with normal result)

  • Services such as massage therapy and personal training are available for an additional fee

  • All other regular program elements are not included

**Support companion must have an BMI of less than 25 and is excluded from all individual assessments, medical testing, discussion groups and some pool classes.

Dietitian on Demand (DOD)—Duke Diet & Fitness Center DOD provides at-home nutrition support for alumni of our residential programs. It includes:

  • Up to five inquiries per month either by phone, video conference or email with your DOD dietitian

  • Review and discussion of your food record with your DOD dietitian

  • The ability to tailor the DOD program to your needs

  • One-Month Program

  • Three-Month Program

  • Six-Month Program
